The Secretary of State for Defence, Amparo Valcarce, today chaired the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ITP Aero plant in Ajalvir (Madrid), a company that is a national benchmark in the air propulsion sector and which is closely linked to the maintenance of aircraft engines in service with the Armed Forces.
Valcarce pointed out during her speech that “the Ministry of Defence’s Special Modernisation Programmes are a great boost for the Spanish technological and industrial base, for our economy and for the creation of highly qualified and skilled jobs”.
In the case of ITP Aero, this collaboration has led the company to participate in large European consortiums in the sector, such as Eurofighter, A-400M and Tigre, and to be identified as the national leader of the technological pillar of the engine in the Next Generation Weapon System (NGWS-FCAS) programme.
In this regard, the Secretary of State highlighted the institutional support provided by the Ministry of Defence “to ensure that there is a quality industrial return in Spain” and stressed the importance of having the commitment and responsibility of the national industry to work in the same direction.
Valcarce also invited them to “retain talent to face the new industrial challenges that are opening up as a result of the Ministry of Defence’s new investment cycle”.
The Secretary of State also pointed out that the times we are living in are complex for security and defence, and require us to follow the path of our allies, increasing investment to ensure that our Armed Forces have the most appropriate operational capabilities.
