A day with ITP Aero’s Technology Executive Director
July 19, 2018ITP Aero joins the XVIII edition of the Madrid Science Week
November 15, 2018New ITP Aero plant in Biscay
The new plant will be located in Derio, inside the Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Bizkaia, very close to ITP Aero’s HQ in Zamudio. The new facilities will host 160 employees – approximately 100 relocations and 60 new openings throughout the following two to three years. Approximately half of the new hires will have a higher level of education (different engineering degrees) and the other half will be in intermediate or higher vocational training jobs.
As a result of the growing demand of Externals, the new plant will incorporate new technologies and will increase its current product portfolio by including more complex and value-adding elements; a high proportion of these being special fabrications. To this end, the new plant will incorporate new technologies, such as advanced joining and superalloy forming process capabilities.
The new plant will be functioning by late spring 2019 and it entails an investment of 14.2 million euros. The site will feature offices for engineering, development and production of several components, besides housing the global headquarters of the Externals business area of the company.
ITP Aero designs, manufactures and delivers Externals products to the main global aero-engine companies (Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell), with manufacturing facilities in Spain, Mexico and India. Within the Externals product portfolio, ITP Aero is a world leader in the design and manufacture of aeronautic tubes – one of the products that Externals design and manufactures.
The demand of Externals is expected to significantly increase throughout the following years due to the ever increasing technology and environmental requirements that new aero engines need to comply with, which add value and responsibility to secondary systems such as Externals.
Carlos Alzola, General Manager of ITP Aero, commented: “The new plant follows the growth plans outlined in the ITP 2020 Strategic Plan, focused on intensifying R&D efforts and responding to the positive growth forecasts of the global aeronautics industry. With the start-up of this plant, we will have opened two new facilities in two years, a trend that reflects ITP Aero’s growth ambitions”.
The event was also supported by the Deputy Minister of Industry of the Basque Government, Javier Zarraonandia, the Deputy for Economic and Territorial Development of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Imanol Pradales, the General Director of Promotion and Economic Development, Gorka Estebez, the Deputy Director General of Business Promotion and Innovation, Txema Bilbao, the Mayor of Zamudio, Igotz López, the Mayoress of Derio, Esther Apraiz, the Manager of the Bizkaia Science and Technology Park, Joseba Urbieta, and the Director of the Park’s Implementation, Ángel Acha.
