ITP Aero, a leading player in the aerospace propulsion industry, has reaffirmed its critical role in supporting Spain’s air defense capabilities with the announcement of a major contract between EUROJET Turbo GmbH (EUROJET) and the NATO Eurofighter & Tornado Management Agency (NETMA). The agreement will see the delivery of 59 new EJ200 engines to the Spanish Air Force, enhancing the Eurofighter Typhoon fleet’s operational readiness and performance.
The contract, signed at Getafe Air Force Base in Madrid, marks a significant milestone in the second phase of Spain’s Halcón acquisition project. This agreement reflects a continued collaboration between the four partners of the EUROJET consortium: Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, ITP Aero, and Avio Aero.
ITP Aero will oversee the final engine assembly in its Ajavir (Madrid) facilities, with the first deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029. The new contract guarantees that ITP Aero’s EJ200 engine assembly lines will remain operational until 2034, ensuring long-term stability and growth for the company’s EJ200 operations in Spain.
ITP Aero is responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly, testing, and ongoing Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services for the EJ200 engine. As the prime MRO services supplier for the Spanish Air and Space Force, ITP Aero ensures that the Spanish military is provided with flexible, reliable, and high-value support solutions tailored to the EJ200 and other engines’ operational needs.
Carlos Alzola, Managing Director of ITP Aero, commented: “This contract underlines the ongoing success of the EJ200 engine and our pivotal role in this world-class programme. The collaboration between ITP Aero and the other EUROJET partners continues to deliver unparalleled performance, reinforcing both Spain’s and Europe’s sovereignty in the defense sector. The programme also offers long-term, highly skilled jobs, fostering both technological innovation and economic growth.”
