The Covid-19 pandemic is having an unprecedented impact on the aviation industry. As a global company in the aeronautical industry, ITP Aero is also suffering from this severe impact with a significant customer demand fall in key commercial programmes during 2020. For example, in new widebody engines, Rolls-Roye has announced it will deliver approximately 250 engines in 2020 (vs 450 expected initially).

In order to address the structural changes and to adapt to a new smaller aviation market, ITP Aero regrets to announce a proposed adjustment of its workforce capacity. By the end of 1H2021, the company proposes to reduce capacity by around 15% globally.

Carlos Alzola, ITP Aero CEO, said: “We are facing the aviation industry’s worst crisis ever and, with great regret, we have to announce this proposed adjustment. Since the beginning of the crisis, we have been working on measures to mitigate the fall in workload as much as possible. These measures have been useful to protect jobs in the short term, but are not sustainable in the long term. The figure announced today is part of a mid-term plan so that ITP Aero can continue to be a strong and competitive company after the crisis. We are working on limiting the social impact and protecting jobs as much as possible. We will continue investing in the industry’s recovery and in technology for our products and services. ”

The reduction plan will be coordinated in detail in all of our markets with works councils. Once the job protection schemes (ERTEs in Spain, Furlough in the UK) come to an end after the summer, the company will begin consultation and negotiation processes with the trade unions in order to address how to deal with the capacity reduction. In addition, ITP Aero will use the temporary job protection schemes available, where the workload fall is circumstantial.
