December 16, 2022ITP Aero cements commitment to growth across the UK with research centres and trade partnerships
ITP Aero has this week announced its partnership with four research centres and the leading national trade body to help drive forward its commitment to innovation and growth across the UK.
Developing its UK eco-system, ITP Aero UK has become a member of the ADS Group (Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space), the leading trade organization in the UK, and is already playing a proactive role on the Aerospace Growth Partnership.
As a founding member of the Clean Aviation programme, ITP Aero has positioned itself as one of the driving forces behind the pursuit of more sustainable solutions, aimed at developing ultra-efficient engines and laying the foundations for hybrid-electric and hydrogen based propulsion systems.
New relationships with four leading research centres, is a key driver to both specifically support its UK operations, but also the wider ITP Aero in meeting its commitments as an organisation and the future of the aviation sector.
The four research centres who will work in close collaboration with ITP Aero UK are:
- AFRC – the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre, near Glasgow, which is part of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland – Advanced Forming Research Centre | University of Strathclyde
- AMRC – The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC)
- MTC – the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Ansty Park, Coventry – MTC | Home | Transforming Industry for a Sustainable World (the-mtc.org)
- TWI – The Welding Institute in Cambridge – Joining Innovation with Expertise – TWI (twi-global.com)
Dr Rob Mitchell, Head of Engineering for ITP Aero UK, said: “As part of our commitment to drive innovation and maximise potential collaboration opportunities, we felt it was important to join ADS and become part of the conversation at this exciting time for our industry as we drive to net zero.
“Delivery of our strategic plan is enhanced and accelerated by this collaboration with these UK based, world leading research centres, developing our eco-system and positioning ourselves for future developments.
“We will be able to harness the incredible and varied skills, expertise and technologies offered to us within our new research centre partners, to drive forward our work on key development projects for our UK and global operations, not to mention the influence that this work can have on the industry overall.”

More about ADS and the four research institutes
AFRC – Advanced Forming Research Centre
The University of Strahclyde in Glasgow formed the Advanced Forming Research Centre in 2008. It is a specialist centre within the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and part of the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult. Their expertise lie in metallic forming, and of particular interest to ITP Aero, is their capability in process modelling, near net shape cold forming, hot creep and superplastic forming, heat treatment and materials and residual stress characterisation.
