Students can specialise in one of the four Professional Training specialities for which ITP has been authorised. Advanced manufacturing, Product life-cycle, Additive welding and non-destructive testing. ITP has collaborated with the Vice-Ministry of Vocational Training of the Basque Government and the Basque Institute of Vocational Training (IVAC-EEI) in the development and coordination the specialization programs contents.

This ITP initiative is part of the collaboration agreement reached with the Basque government to promote Dual Professional Training. The aim of this public-private initiative is to adapt youth training to the demands created by technological innovation and to respond to the challenges of increased competition that these industries are subject to.

According to Arantza Hallett, ITP Human Resources Director: “This is a great opportunity for students in Vocational Training to see a real business situation and to apply what they have learned in their studies. For ITP, we are looking for a sustainable model of educational development to produce the professionals of the future Industry 4.0. We hope to continue working to bring more students to our other work centres in the future.”

Specialised training

The students enrolled today have recently finished their first year courses and come from six Integrated Vocational Training Centres (CIFP): Politeknika Txorierri, Elorrieta-Erreka Mari, Zornotza, Somorrotro, Nicolas Larburu and Salesianos Deusto. The programme will continue through the next two courses, until the students have finished their training.</p>
<p>In the first stage, the students will be trained in basic areas such as risk prevention, operating policies and quality systems, and will receive an introduction to different areas of ITP’s business. In the second course, they will take part in an induction course with materials on ‘lean manufacturing’, production processes and manufacturing technologies. After this second stage, the students will start to specialise, and this will take them through the second and third years, when they will acquire specific training in their different areas of specialisation.

The students will also receive training in cross-disciplinary skills that supplement the material of each specialisation, such as conflict resolution, attitudes to change, decision making and emotional intelligence, among others.
