ITP Aero promotes a programming BOOTCAMP for children joining the global Code.ORG movement

ITP Aero has joined the group of world leading companies that promote Computer Science through Code.org, a non-profit organisation that aims to encourage young people to learn programming. ITP Aero is the first Spanish industrial company to join this initiative after the recent incorporation of José María Álvarez-Pallete, Chairman of Telefónica, and global leaders such as Bill and Melinda Gates, Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook and Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, among others.

The agreement reached with Code.org to promote programming also means that ITP Aero has become a strategic international partner of this organisation.

The first activity resulting from this collaboration is the financing of a BOOTCAMP – technology summer camp – for children aged between 10 and 14 in Madrid and Bilbao in the first and second half of July respectively, at the facilities of Talent Garden and the Bizkaia Provincial Council in the Beaz Bizkaia space, also promoters of Code.ORG in Spain. 50 scholarship places in each camp are open to interested families who can apply for them by sending a cover letter to bootcamp@talentgarden.com. The list of scholarship holders will be made public on 7 June.

ITP Aero, for its part, will be making a similar process of selecting ten places for the children of employees at its centres in Madrid and Bizkaia.

Programming, the language of the 21st century

Currently, and despite the fact that programming is a highly sought-after profession, 82% of parents and 76% of students in Spain are unaware of what computer science is and what subjects it comprises, according to the report ‘Computer Science Education in Spain 2015’. In the field of teaching, 82% of teachers have never learned how to use technology to teach. Code.org aims to accompany students and teachers in their training.

At a time like the present, in which technological development affects all aspects and where the pandemic has accelerated the transformation of the world to digital, it is more important than ever to promote digital competences and skills in order to access the jobs that the labour market is demanding. And in this new employability, lifelong learning and professional reskilling of workers are two basic elements to connect with the challenges of the digital era.

Learning with Code.org

Code.org® is a non-profit organisation dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing the participation of young women and students from underrepresented groups. Its vision is that all students, in all schools around the world, should have the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their basic education. More than 55 million students and 2 million teachers have accounts on the Code.org platform, and there have already been more than 1.1 billion hours of coding done worldwide.

A Spanish team to lead the development of code.org in EMEA

With the support of social, economic and political leaders and some of the most important companies worldwide, Code.org works in more than 180 countries offering free online training from the age of 6, with students learning in more than 60 languages. In Spanish, Code.org makes its different contents accessible so that anyone can train and learn to program, especially the youngest.

Now, Code.org has launched a project office for EMEA in Spain.
